The Shockingly Offensive Word Quinta Brunson Was ‘Happy’ to Say on ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’

The Shockingly Offensive Word Quinta Brunson Was ‘Happy’ to Say on ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’

We’re just weeks away from the season premiere of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which will finally give fans the long-awaited follow-up to the Abbott Elementary crossover that aired earlier this year. But while the first part of the comedy team-up played on the squeaky-clean, Disney-owned network ABC, now we’ll get to see how the Abbott Elementary characters behave on the filthy, also Disney-owned FX.

In addition to the fact that the cable channel has fewer content restrictions than ABC, as we’ve mentioned before, fans have speculated that we will get to see wholly different versions of the Abbott Elementary characters on It’s Always Sunny, since there will be no documentary crew filming them. And from the sounds of it, the lovable band of educators are a whole lot more foul-mouthed when the in-universe cameras aren’t rolling.

A tuxedo-clad Charlie Day, hot off of a trip to the Cannes Film Festival, just guested on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote the upcoming season. And the host, who has seen the episode, was taken aback by Janine’s foul mouth. “You had Quinta Brunson say something that even I was absolutely shocked by in that episode of the show,” Kimmel admitted.

“And I can’t say it on television,” Day noted.

“No, no it should never be said on television,” Kimmel agreed.

“We did write all their characters some lines that were much edgier than what they do on ABC,” Day explained. Although not every Abbott Elementary cast member was totally on board with the sudden cursing. “Sheryl Lee Ralph I think was the only one who was like, ‘I don’t think I can do this.’” Instead she improvised an acronym to substitute for a certain four-letter word: Sugar Honey Iced Tea.

“I was like, ‘That’s better let’s go with Sugar Honey Iced Tea,’” Day recalled.

Kimmel then gave us a better sense of what exactly Brunson said that was so extreme. “Quinta’s (word) was like, Caffeine United Nancy Tony. It was much worse than Sugar Honey Iced Tea,” Kimmel said, adding, “I was surprised that she did that.”

Yeah, so apparently Janine drops the C-word at some point during the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia premiere. But Day made it clear that Brunson was totally game to have her G-rated character take a “darker” turn. “I think she was so happy to do it,” the Pacific Rim: Uprising star theorized. “I think they’re really kind of boxed in on network television. We let her run.”

Hopefully Janine doesn’t continue to be influenced by the Sunny gang and, say, trick Gregory into digging up a corpse.
