25 Wild Moments From Peoples’ Childhoods That No One Else Remembers

A traumatic injury may scar you for life, but as one Redditor found out, it’s possible that even your own mother will forget about your pain.

They told the story of the time they went down a slide face-first and sprained their neck, which resulted in being rushed to the doctor and having to wear a neck brace for some time. And though they’re “unable to ever go down a slide face-first again,” their family was so unfazed by this event that they have zero memories of it. “I even found pictures of myself IN THE NECK CAST with my mom and sister,” they continued. “I’ve showed them both these photos, and they still have no recollection of me ever being in a neck cast.”

Regardless of their family’s lapse in memory, their body continues to keep the score — which is something other Redditors can relate to. They’ve disclosed the lasting memories that no one else remembers, the wildest of which include tales of cliff escapes, even more sprained necks and secret offices hidden under a highway.

DTS_Crafter . 4y ago Me and an old friend of mine, saw a random stranger with a chainsaw jumping from roof to roof. No one else saw it and when we looked again the person dissapeared. We told our parents and they looked and saw it too, but only me and my friend can remember that. 114 ... + More replies
Pleasant-Unit-5852 4y ago I got caught in a riptide and nearly drowned. My grandparents used to say that they remembered. Now they don't. Which is proof that I in fact did get caught in one. 103 ...
kikuyu2020 . 4y ago When I was in the 5th grade I was in boarding school. When Thanksgiving came, I was the only kid that got left at the school. I wound up spending Thanksgiving with the nuns. When I got older, I asked my mother why she left me at the school and she said that didn't happen and I was making it up so people would feel sorry for me. BS you don't forget something like that. 173 ...
herurumeruru 4y ago When I was 3 some people in a hot air balloon landed in my yard. My babysitter opened the window and had a friendly conversation with them. I thought this was something normal that everyone experienced. 77 ... + More replies
mintygum227 4y ago As a little kid, I went down a slide face first, landed wrong, and sprained my neck. After being rushed to the doctor, I was made to wear a neck cast for a while. I'm the only person in my entire family that has any memory of this event. I even found pictures of myself IN THE NECK CAST with my mom and sister. I've showed them both these photos and they still have no recollection of me ever being in a neck cast. Sad to report that, as an adult, I still can't go down a
ctgh 4y ago My second one, I remember my grandmother taking me to this place, we parked on the side of the road and walked up to this overpass that had a fucking door on the side of it and an office inside, like under ground/under the highway. When we went into this office, they had me do all sorts of tests and interviews, something similar to an IQ test I think. I was in kindergarten at the time so I have no idea what the heck that place was. I never heard or could figure out what that place
. 4y ago My brother shit in a bag and put in inside my other brother's lamp, so when he turned it on his shit would be projected onto the walls. This DEFINITLY happened but EVERYONE in my family has no memory. 70 ... + More replies
Ames_fire 4y ago Strangely enough only today was I talking with my family about how I am convinced that when we had a swine flu epidemic (I think) around 2010, my parents thought my sister had caught it and so locked her in her room for days. However, everyone, including my sister can not remember this! 9 ...
ceesa 4y ago My grandmother had dementia, and despite being a wonderful and kind woman her whole life, one night at dinner she let slip a darker side. My family was happily chatting and somehow the topic of the Holocaust came up, and she said of the Jews, They had it coming, you know. My whole family was there and we were all shocked and reprimanded her on the spot, but I'm the only one that remembers it happening. 8 ...

4y ago When I was about five, I went with my mom to go get some Chick-fil-a for my great grandpa. On the way there, I can distinctly remember driving off a cliff, and my mom pulling off some smooth maneuver to save us both. When I shared this story with my great grandpa (and my grandma, she was in the room as well), my mom told me I must have been dreaming. But I'm 95% sure I wasn't, even to this day. 6 ...
Upstairs-Factor-2012 4y ago Walking in on my mom with a gun to her head, and being responsible for monitoring her eating disorder at age 7. She prides herself on the fact that I had a childhood free from trauma and I just don't have the heart to tell her I remember. I don't know if she is pretending it didn't happen or has blocked it out. 6 ...
atropos27 . 4y ago . Edited 4y ago A family trip to Arizona/the Grand Canyon. We didn't travel much when I was kid unless one of my parents had a conference somewhere. This was the first non-work related trip we'd taken. I have pictures. The handful of times I've brought it up in the last few years my parents both looked at my like I was crazy 5 ...
lobemagenzfam 4y ago Edited 4y ago I almost burned my hair once.. it was a nice evening and diwali was being celebrated. Everyone had a blast except it was real because my hair was open and a diffused but still having fire on it firecracker got into contact with my hair. The fun fact is that I wasn't even the one to realise that I have lit my hair up but it was my father who ran towards me in panic. Now everyone acts or maybe doesn't even remember that this happened.
SingIntoMyMouth91 4y ago This didn't happen in my childhood but rather when I was newly an adult so about 7 years ago. My brother got a haircut that looked like he was straight out of The Beatles in the 60s. I told him he looked like Ringo Starr. I remember being at my parents when I said that and my parents and both of my brothers were in the room. Yet no one else remembers this. 2 ...

nevbirks 4y ago When I was 6, I lived in Iraq. My mom took me to work in a manufacturing plant. Her coworkers got me a wild bird to take home. As I got home, my mom told me to release the bird so it can go back home. I didn't want to but I agreed as I realized it probably had a home somewhere. As I release a bird a bloody cat run from around the corner and eats the bird. I was crying for hours. Apparently my mom doesn't remember it. Poor bird. 2 ...
brokenstrings1138 4y ago I remember I was about five or six. I got ready for bed and went to sleep in my room at my parents house. I remember having a really vicid dream of my bed flying through the stars. I was still sleeping in my bed. It was in the third person. I woke up the next day at my grandma's house. She lived about two hours away. I asked her how I got there. She told me she didn't know. I asked everyone and no one could tell me how or why I was there. Even my
Echolynne44 4y ago In grade school, like 3rd and 4th grade, our class would go to the local prison and we would watch the prisoners put on a puppet show. I didn't think much of it until years later. Only 2 of my friends remember it, after I asked about it in a reunion chat. 2 ...

Drinkable_Bacon . 4y ago I don't know if this counts, but apparently it didn't happen, but I specifically remember the family dog being taken away to be put down. At my childhood home, there was this pathway that led to brick stairs. 6 yr old me wanted to be on the outside stairs. So I did just that. ВАМ. Face first into a brick stair.
